108 Media Boards Japanese Tragicomedy Performs Kaorus Funeral
EXCLUSIVE: 108 Media, the production, finance, and distribution business with offices in Toronto and London, has boarded Noriko Yuasas upcoming Japanese tragicomedy Performing Kaoru s Funeral.
The firm will act as a co-producer on the project and handle worldwide sales, including at the upcoming Busan International Film Festival. Casting is in the works.
Jun Yokotani is obligated by death to honor his estranged ex-wife Kaorus passing before he can start life anew, as shown in Yuasa (Coming Back Sunny). Yokotani and Kaorus daughter (also known Kaori) must make a radical change in their lives while performing Kakoru's funeral. Completely incompatible, Yokorani has to abandon Kauru and resign himself to the burden of creating semblance of kin.
Takato Nishi wrote the screenplay. Mika Shimoeda is producing, with Takeo Hisamatsu of MyWay Movies co-producing. Filming will begin in Japan in January 2022 and will last four weeks.
Yuasa said, This project focuses on the domestic phenomenon of funerals in Japan, which is not only personal, but its shared with everyone and is definitely meaningful. The film is based on the universal theme of humankind saying their final goodbyes, and a restart is certain to be the key to bringing empathy and excitement to the world and posting peoples lives.
Ryo Ebe, Managing Director of 108 Media (North East Asia), said, "We are thrilled to announce the publication of this amazing story. Performing Kaorus Funeral addresses the complexity of passions that are at the heart of our identities while also recognizing the past within.
