Emma Kenney, star of 'Shameless', addresses Emmy Rossum's Exit From Showtime Series
Emma Kenney, one of the Shameless cast members, stated, "We 100% felt like a family, and we still do." We had such a bonding experience, said the couple.
She says that, like a family, the relationships among the actors were complex.
Kenney, now 22, spoke today about her experience on the recently-released Showtime series on The popular Call Her Daddy podcast, including her interactions with co-star Emmy Rossum.
Kenney said her relationship with Rossum, who plays her sister on the show, felt like a siblingship in good and bad ways.
We were both so young, I was obviously a lot younger. She would try to be a good influence and then she would be giving me...not the best advice, Kenney said. Maybe she was struggling with her own inner problems and taking it out on other people. But we all approach situations differently.
As I grew up, I took note of things I want to carry on my life and things that I dont want. Not just from her in particular, she continued.
Kenney said she felt like she was living in Rossums shadow on the show, I felt that dynamic for sure and I never understood it. I was 9 and she was over 10 years older than me, so Im like, Why is there such a strange competition here when I amnt trying to compete? I dont know if it was other people on set creating that, or a different person creating it, but I know I wasn t creating the thing.
Kenny said after Rossum left the show in 2018, the set became a little more of receptive place.
Id go to set some days and Im sure I would be anxious about having a scene with her because if she had shaky days, she made it likewise terribly bad for everyone.
Kenny says they aren't in contact about where their relationship is now.
Emmy is a wonderful person, Ive known her for so long. We havent talked in years, but thats OK, she added. I have a lot of respect for her, and I hope that she finds her happiness, he added.
