Melissa Hayes Thomas, Groupon Executive's New CFO, becomes Cinemark'' newest COO
Melissa Hayes Thomas, Groupon's chief financial officer, has been named as Cinemark'' new CFO and executive vice president. The appointment takes effect on Nov. 8.
Current CFO Sean Gamble will step down from that position but will continue to serve as president and chief operating officer, according to the business on Wednesday. After CEO Mark Zoradi retires at the end of this year, hell take over as chief executive on Jan. 1.
Thomas has been at Groupon in a variety of top positions since 2017. She previously served as VP Finance at Surgical Care Affiliates and has held a variety of finance and accounting roles at Orbitz Worldwide, Equity Office Properties, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Thomas signed a threeyear contract, which was automatically extended for an additional one year period.
Gamble helped steer Cinemark through a Covid downturn that saw theaters close for sever long periods, at o e n h i l u t p c f. The industry is now considered less at risk as the box office picks up with a string of big releases from Black Widow to Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings to Venom: Let There Be Carnage to the latest James Bond No Time To Die. The run has been a good week for exhibition share prices, and some Wall Street analysts upgraded the stocks this week.
Cinemark shares closed down 1.41% at $19.52 today, but are up 1.63% in after-hours trading well above their 52-week high of $7.56, yet well below a year high set by nearly $28 in spring.
