Top 50 Michigan football recruits for class of 2022: October update:

Here's a look at the top 50 football recruits in Michigan for the class of 2022. As we approach the signing days this winter, expect monthly updates to the list.

Mel Tucker and the Spartans have done a wonderful job in acquiring top prospects in Michigan. Michigan State signed defensive back Dillon Tatum from West Bloomfield on Sept. 29.

Tatum is a four-star prospect with excellent track speed and the ability to play both ways as he makes measurable difference for West Bloomfield. Tatum was the state's top remaining recruit for quite a while, but he was also deciding between Michigan State and Michigan University. In the end, the Spartans snagged the talent who projects to play cornerback or nickel.

The addition of Tatum to the Spartans' 2022 recruiting class completes the impressive in-state haul for the team. Along with Tatum -- who is ranked No. 4 in MLives top 50 -- Michigan State has three more top 10 prospects in Dearborn Fordson wide receiver Antonio Gates Jr. (No. 5), Essexville Garber defensive lineman Alex VanSumeren (N 6) and Birmingham Groves athlete Jaden Mangham (no. 9). Tyrell Henry, a wide receiver from Roseville, is committed to Michigan State and sits at No. 11. All have four-star ratings, except for Henry, who is a three-Star prospect.

Will Johnson, a five-star receiver and defensive back at Grosse Pointe South, is the top-ranked recruit in Michigan. Tayshawn Trent (No. 7) is also a target for the Harper Woods in wide receivers. According to 247Sports' recruiting analysis, unsigned four-star Detroit Cass Tech defensive lineman Deone Walker (No. 12) is believed to be a Michigan commit.

Michael Williams, West Bloomfield linebacker/end standout, is the top uncommitted recruit remaining. He holds 16 offers and includes Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Purdue, and Cincinnati in his top five, which Williams shared last summer.
