Charles Barkley's goalie effort Against Wayne Gretzky Fits the Model You'd Expect
On Tuesday night, we got our first look at ESPNs return to hockey broadcasts as well as the debut of the expansion Seattle Kraken. On Wednesday, the NHL on TNT made its regular season debut with Rangers-Capitals, which was the other new broadcast partner of the hockey's.
The Great One, Wayne Gretzky, is the headliner of TNTs NHL coverage in studio, and for their opening night, Turner brought out their biggest star from Inside the NBA to join the crew, as hockey enthusiast Charles Barkley joined the guys at the desk. Barkley immediately brought his usual jovial energy to the desk, helping the new NHL on TNT crew set a much lighter tone than fans were used to from NBCs hockey coverage despite some crossover.
Barkley slammed Gretzky for being beat up by a guy with a perm. The newspaper also showed some old clips of their analysts, including 'a rare lowlight for Gritzky.
Gretzky would take revenge on Chuck later in the show when they gave Barkley some goalie gear and made him try and stop five shots from Wayne, which went as well as youd imagine.
Barkley never saw any of the pucks, with the only stop being a puck that dropped behind him but didnt cross the goal line. Chuck would have had any doubts if he chose basketball instead of hockey, this helps put that concern to rest, and when the NBA begins next week, a more comfortable set where hockey goals will be swapped for basketball hoops.
