Authorities said Wednesday that a 33-year-old Bayonne man has been charged with beating he more than twice his age in 'a road rage incident in Bayone earlier this month'.
Luis A. Villa was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession, Bayonne Capt. Eric Amato reported.
On Oct. 5, Bayonne police responded to the area of Hook Road and Route 440 at 10:48 a.m. after an 81-year-old Jersey City man was attacked by another driver while in his vehicle. Villa, in the vehicle behind the victim, started shouting at him and then stepped out of his car. The man told police he was sitting in his vehicle at a traffic light when Villa appeared to be yelling at the man.
Villa retrieved a fiberglass object from the trunk of his vehicle and proceeded to hit the victim about the head and face with it through the drivers door window, Amato said.
The 81-year-old suffered injuries to his left eye and face and was treated at an area hospital. Villa was identified as the assailant by the Bayonne Detective Bureau after a thorough investigation.
