Sky Studios & DBK Studios Team For Undiscovered Narratives On Sky Arts; Short Film Series Will Celebrate Diverse UK Talent;

EXCLUSIVE: Sky Studios and DBK Studios are collaborating on a five-part short film series that will highlight the UKs emerging black and diverse talent, with filmmakers including an assistant on Rapman s Blue Story and the lead actress from E4's Russel T Davies show Banana.

Unearthed Narratives, according to the producers, will have a common theme of hard-hitting yet relatable stories, set across different generations and on dozens of topics, including care work, sickle cell anaemia, social media culture, middle-class hobbies in the black community, racism in 1950s England, and the culture within London housing estates.

Edem Wornoo, a well-known music video director who has worked on Daves Black and most recently Clash (ft. Teniola Zara King, a graduate of the London Film School and formerly worked as he worked in Nigeria on mainstream television dramas, Jessica Magaye, who worked on Sex Education before beginning her writing career, and Nikki Fagbemi, the lead actress in an episode of Banana (E4), written by Russell T Davies.

Stephen Odubola (Blue Story), Hope Ipoku and Malcolm Kamulete (Top Boy), Dorcas Shola Fapson (MTVs Shuga), Ellis George (Small Axe: Lovers Rock), Susannah Harker (BAFTA nominated for House of Cards), and Paterson Joseph (Noughts and Crosses) are among the actors in the films.

Phil Edgar-Jones, Sky Arts and Entertainment Director, and Manpreet Dosanjh, the Sky Studios commissioning editor, released Unearthed Narratives. Koby Adom, Dola Araoye, Domenique Fragale and Danielle Goff are co-producing the series, which is produced by DBK Studios, and the show's executive producers are Dolores Arooyes, Dominique Fragile, Kobie Amano, & Dolan Arreaoyere.

Koby Adom (Noughts and Crosses) founded DBK Studios in 2018, focusing on providing a platform for stories from under-represented British creatives.

Haircut was my first film and television venture but since then, a slew of opportunities have opened up for me, and my film/TV career is fast advancing with all the ambitions I had for executing now becoming attainable. However, coming into this industry, I encountered obstacles that Id like to keep other Black and ethnic minority filmmakers from facing, stated Adom. I want to help them get their first foot in the door and champion ownership, because we have always had the fewest opportunities in our industry, and when we do, we dont have a say in business matters.

Manpreet Dosanjh, Commissioning Editor Sky Studios, stated, Sometimes opportunities for black and ethnic minority creatives to tell their stories are limited by circumstances, adding ManPreem Dozanjuh. Sky Studios only provided a supporting role when needed for Unearthed Narratives, which was extremely important to us because these filmmakers had full editorial control over the film. The ownership and vision of these films remains entirely with the filmmakers, and thats what gives this work authenticity and integrity.
