Bay City Athlete of the Week honors fall sports stars with nominations for Bay city ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

BAY CITY, MI -- BAy City, Michigan -- All 25 schools in the MLive Bay City coverage area are able to recognize their fall sports athletes from volleyball, soccer, cross country, tennis, golf, and swimming teams each week with the Athlete of the Week poll. Coaches and athletic directors are requested to nominate candidates by emailing lthomps2@mlive.com.

Fans may vote as many times as they like until the poll closes at 9 a.m. on whether to select saturday's winner. Monday, Oct. 18, at 12:30 p.m. Here's a look at the athletes who were either nominated this week or selected by MLive due to sluggish response.

MLive polls are non-scientific endeavours, designed to promote fun, fandom, and discussion. The winners receive no money and the results have no impact on postseason awards.

ABBY BROWN, CLARE, AABY BRUNN

The second-year varsity player has proven to be an impactful performer for the Clare volleyball team. She is a strong defensive setter with excellent court vision. She distributes the ball to all the hitters, finding the correct player in the right spot. The junior also has a strong serve, with 69 aceces, which is matched by the team's highest. She has 507 assists, 190 digs, and 62 kills on the season.

AALIYA COTA, TAWAS, AALYAH COT,

The junior serves as the pacemaker for the Tawas girls cross country team. She has posted three top-10 finishes on the year, including a runner-up finish at the SVSU Races and sat seventh at Mancelona Invite. She finished in a season-low 21:53 at Shepherds Bruder Classic. The 2020 state qualifier placed 21st in Division 3 with a PR of 19:57.

JACK DWAN, JOHN GLENN, AND JEAN GRENN

Dwan's year as a member of the John Glenn boys tennis team was billed as an outstanding year. At the No. 1 singles position, he won individual titles at the Bay County Championship and the Tri-Valley Championship. He finished No. 3 at the Division 3 regionals, beating Owosso 6-0, 6-1 to reach the semifinals.

KALEE GRAY, CASS CITY, KALEE GRAAY,

Gray has proven to be a powerful weapon for the Cass City volleyball team. The senior is a presence at the net and an offensive force. She has been consistent with her arm swing all year, but her ability to move the ball is difficult to predict for opponents. She finished with 39 kills and four blocks as the Red Hawks finished 4-1 at the Cass City Invitational.

BAY CITY WESTERN MAGGIE HOLMAN, BAI CITTY WERTERN

The senior has since joined the team as a team leader for Western volleyball this season. The captain is well-respected for her preparation, communication, and performance on court. On the year, She leads the Warriors with 207 digs and 44 aces. She is a student of distinction and hopes to attend the University of Michigan.

CHLOE JONES, OGEMAW HEIGHTS, CHHOE JOENES

A fourth-year star with the Ogemaw Heights cross country team, she is advancing her career into top form for the stretch run. The senior finished with a season-low 20:36 at the Gladwin Invitational, then ranked third at Mancelona Invitationals. As a junior, she was able to qualify for state competition with her positive attitude.

ADAM MAUST, UNIONVILLE-SEBEWAING, ADAMS MAUT, SEBEWEWARING, Adam MAUS, SEEINGTON,

The senior has been a vital member of the Unionville-Sebewaing boys soccer team. He scored one goal and added one assist in a 7-0 victory over Caro on Senior Night. Maust has been on fire throughout the regular season, scoring five goals and providing three assists in the past week. He led the Patriots to a 9-4-2 regular season record.

BAY CITY CENTRAL XAVIER WILSON, BARBARA CITIESCENTRIAL xAVIE WSILSON.

Hes already making his mark on the Central boys soccer team as a sophomore. He is a member of the U19 Premier Team at BASA and uses his expertise and insights to assist the Wolves. As a freshman, he was named all-Saginaw Valley League honorable mention as 'a two-year starter at center-back. Ziggy is a football player who gives his all and enjoys his time on the field. He also serves as kicker on varsity football.
