In Toms River, man with bat, knives, survives standoff with man in Tom's river. No one is hurt in the fight
After a brief standoff with police, he was arrested after attempting to break into his home Tuesday afternoon.
Township police were called at 4:05 p.m. to Patmas Drive for a report of harmed man inside he home with sledgehammers, axes, and hammer.
According to Toms River Police Chief Mitchell A. Little, family members living in the home were evacuated.
Little said the man opened the front door with a bat and large knife and, after failing to follow officers orders, he closed the door, refusing to come out.
Police hostage negotiators met with the man on the phone, and members of the departments tactical team entered the house and took him into custody, according to Little.
The man was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for evaluation and treatment, the chief said. No one was hurt.
