Sir Ian Holm, Who Played Bilbo In The Lord Of The Rings, Has Died
Sir Ian Holm, who played Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has died in hospital, according to BBC News, citing his agent. He was 88 years old.
The cause of death was named as complications caused by Parkinson's disease.
"Sir Ian Holm, commander of the order of the British Empire died this morning," a press release said. Next to him in the hospital were his family and a nurse."
Ian Holm Cuthbert was born on 12 September 1931 in Goodmayes. He studied at the Royal Academy of dramatic art, played a lot in theaters, and first appeared in films in 1958.
His track record includes more than 100 film roles. His most famous works are in Alien (1979), The Madness of King George (1994), and the Fifth Element (1995). For his role in Chariots of Fire (1981), Holm was nominated for an Oscar in the Best supporting actor category.
