Seventeen People Died In An Explosion At The Funeral Of The Head Of The Regional Police In Afghanistan
At least 17 people were killed in an explosion that occurred on Tuesday during the funeral of the head of the police of a district in the Afghan province of Nangarhar. This was reported by the Afghan TV channel Tolo News. Earlier, it was reported that 10 people were killed in the explosion.
More than 50 people who attended the funeral of a police officer who died last night of a heart attack were injured, Atalla Khogyani, a provincial administration official, said. All the victims were taken to a local hospital.
According to the local police, the explosion was organized by a suicide bomber who was among the participants of the funeral procession: he detonated an explosive device attached to it.
So far, no extremist groups operating in Afghanistan have claimed responsibility for the bombing.
