Pompeo And Lavrov Discussed Issues Of Cooperation In The Fight Against Coronavirus
Foreign Ministers of Russia and the United States, Sergey Lavrov, and Mike Pompeo discussed the interaction of the two countries in the fight against coronavirus in a telephone conversation on Wednesday. This is stated in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"In the context of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, issues related to the interaction of the two countries in this area were discussed, taking into account the need to unite the efforts of all members of the international community according to the calls of the UN leadership and other multilateral organizations," the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also reported that during a telephone conversation, Lavrov spoke in favor of extending the Treaty on measures to further reduce and restrict strategic offensive weapons (START).
"There was an exchange of views on global security issues. Lavrov again spoke in favor of extending the start Treaty, which expires in February 2021. The ways to activate the Russian-American dialogue on arms limitation and non-proliferation are considered, taking into account factors that affect strategic stability," the Ministry said.
Besides, the parties confirmed the importance of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in World War II for preserving the historical memory of the feat of the anti-Hitler coalition countries.
