The President Of Venezuela Announced The Beginning Of A New Phase Of Military Exercises
A new phase of the military exercise "Bolivarian shield-2020" will begin in the coming hours in Venezuela, according to the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
"Our commander-in-chief has ordered to start a new phase of military exercises "Bolivarian shield" on the territory of the whole country in the next few hours. Priority will be given to the coastal region," the press service quoted Vladimir Padrino Lopez as saying.
He noted that the military would carefully monitor the coastal areas to prevent the entry of "new individuals or cells of conspirators who want to undermine peace in the country."
Earlier, the Venezuelan authorities reported that they managed to prevent the invasion of Colombia by a group of mercenaries who intended to carry out a coup in the Bolivarian Republic. According to the President of the Constitutional Assembly of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, the mercenaries tried to enter Venezuela by boat from the sea.
In February, the President of the South American Republic, Nicolas Maduro, declared that this year Venezuela would conduct surprise military exercises, without first announcing the start date. According to the head of state, the maneuvers will take place within the framework of the "Bolivarian shield 2020" exercise. The first stage of which took place on February 15-16.
