In episode 8, Bob Odenkirk, who played Walt and Jesse's criminal defense lawyer Saul Goodman, from Breaking Bad, Odenkirk returned for the prequel, also titled Better Call Saul, which followed his character's slow transition from sincere to selfish lawyer.
Odenkirk talked about his origins in the role that defined his career on Breaking Bad, and how he was introduced to him by series creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, who were unaware that Odenkirk was a fan of Odenkirk's "Mr. Show" sketch series.
Before Breaking Bad changed Odenkirk's career, he was well-known for starring in the HBO sketch series Mr. Show with Bob and David. Gilligan prefers to hire comedic actors because he believes the comedic experience helps an actor comprehend the human nature of drama.
