According to a fresh market analysis from Data.ai., iOS and Android users spent $33.9 billion on mobile apps and games in the first quarter of 2023.

iOS users spent 4% more on apps and games compared to Android users 6% more yearly.

Games, entertainment apps, and communication apps are among the most popular spending categories. Users also spent significantly more on these apps in the first quarter of 2023, compared to the previous quarter.

In the first quarter of this year, users of both platforms downloaded 38.2 billion apps on their mobile devices. iOS downloads increased by 12% year over year to 9.1 billion apps. For Android, app downloads increased by 1% to 29.1 billion apps. Most applications were downloaded to their devices by users from India and Brazil.

Games, productivity apps, and educational applications were the most popular download categories on iOS. 12, 10, and 9 percent, respectively.

The most popular mobile apps by downloads were TikTok, Instagram*, and Facebook*, as well as by user spending — TikTok, YouTube, and Disney+, and by the number of active users — Facebook*, WhatsApp messenger, and Instagram*.
