Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson has apologized to fans after they complained about her using a "ghetto" accent during a recent TikTok Live performance. "You know what?" she said in the problematic video, while deliberately pronouncing her words.
The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo alum explained that she was not attempting to offend anyone in her apologies, which she said she did on March 26. "It's my nature, not my fault!" she added: "I feel in no way i do! i feel like i am my own true self!"
Alana continued: "i never intended for anything to come off like that." Her full apologies can be seen here.
Critics claim that Alana misappropriated Black people by mingling the so-called "ghetto" accent. "With my eyes closed you couldn't convince me that this is not a [Black woman]," a Twitter user said. Immediately after the viral video, another person said, "She said "She's not a racist."
Alana, a TLC star, was caught in a car chase with cops in Monroe County, Ga., on March 1 after her boyfriend of two years, Dralin Carswell, 21, fled police, was detained, and was listed as a witness. Another male passenger, Julian Malik Divon Williams, was reportedly also detained.
Alana announced that she was seeing Dralin in a Q&A session on Instagram in January of 2021. She then went on to become an Instagram official in September of that same year. In an interview published in Aug. 2021, she said that she does not have many friends. At all.
