Kelly's co-host on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Ryan Seacrest, announced his retirement from the program in February 2023. "She has been an incredible partner, friend, and confidant," Ryan said.

Kelly Ripa Joined 'Live' in 2001
After the departure of his long-time co-host of All My Children, Kelly volunteered to co-host Live with Regis Philbin. "Hers was a natural, quick-witted, unaffected, confident, fun-loving type of sparkle," Regis wrote of Kelly in his memoir How I Got This Way.
On February 5, 2001, Kelly was announced as the official replacement. Within months, the Morning Talk Show was renamed Live! with Regis and Kelly.
Despite her early days, she said she always go back to this a long time ago, and it was one of these dark periods at work where the job was riddled with fear, according to People in October 2022. “I was seriously contemplating whether or not I should leave the job,” she said.
Kelly Ripa's 'Live' Co-hosts Over the Years
Kelly had huge shoes to fill as a result of Kathie Lee's departure. Nevertheless, she stayed connected to Regis, until his retirement in 2011. This left a lot of room for other co-hosts to fill.
Ryan, an American Idol host, took over as Strahan's permanent replacement in 2017. However, Ryan announced that he would be retiring after six seasons.

Kelly's husband Mark was announced on All My Children in 1995, married a year later, and welcomed three children together: Michael, 25, Lola, 21, and Joaquin, 19. Mark has previously guest-hosted his wife on several occasions.
Mark is a long-time fan-favorite guest host on the 'Live' family, according to executive producer Michael Gelman in a statement. 'We're sure that viewers will agree that he'll make the show a success.'
Is Kelly Ripa on the verge of resigning from 'Live'?
Kelly may be in the seat for a while longer due to Ryan's departure, but she has previously suggested that she might quit before the end of the year.
Kelly suggested when she might appoint a new host to take over. "I believe in inspiring somebody new," she said to the outlet. "I wish to see that someone enlists themselves into our audience's lives in the near future."
During a conversation with Variety that was published on March 28, 2023, she expressed the same sentiment. "It's not a timeline on it, but I do believe there is a fantastic opportunity to get two younger people up and train them, because I like seamless transitions."
Kelly is on the verge of giving up her role as a performer.
'I don't think they wanted to pay me,' she said in the same profile. "I think they had to pay me," she said of Variety. "I think they realized quickly that they had made a mistake. They had no choice."
"I don't know how tough it was," she said of her ignorance as a Live co-host. "I don't know that I would have gone for it if I had known."
