Many within the Silent Hill community and beyond have speculated on what the game will offer players as a result of the Silent Hill 2 remake, which was announced last year. However, a recent statement made by a former Silent Hill series writer may suggest that the game will be tense for some players due to the nature of remakes.
Sam Barlow, a writer who wrote games such as Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Silent Hil Origins, has claimed that the Silent Hill 2 remake might enrage players. "It's also like the biggest poison chalice in videogames, doing a remaster of Silent Hill 2."
Because the Silent Hill 2 campaign was notorious for attempting to sway Silent Hill fans, particularly those who enjoyed the original sequel, the remake received some criticism when the teaser for the film was released in October due to the famous mirror scene. This prompted Silent Hill illustrator Masahiro Ito to dismiss the popular fan theory that protagonist James Sunderland was actually looking at the player while staring through the mirror.
