Bend Studio's next game will make use of motion matching technology to create smooth animations.

Alexander Manresa, the studio's principal and technical animator, has disclosed that it will utilize motion matching technology in its next title, including Ubisoft's For Honor, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part 1 and 2, and Valve's Half-Life: Alyx.

Manresa's job description as Lead Technical Animator states that he was involved in the roadmap feature development for motion matching workflows between May, 2022 and March, 2023 on an unannounced project. He was also involved in animating, implementing, troubleshooting, and playtest tuning various player and NPC motion content during his 11-month stint at Bend Studio.

Bend Studio is expected to be working on the Decima engine for their next project, and it will be an open world game, according to a profile on the game designer. Mathew Seymour's LinkedIn profile states that he has been working with the Decima engine for Bend Studio's next game.

The unannounced project is said to focus on "Cinematic-Quality" facial animation, 3D audio, and possibly online multiplayer. According to Bend Studio's LinkedIn profile, senior staff technical artist James Sathre mentioned integrating Shotgun-Jira into the studio's development pipeline and working on next-generation lighting workflow tools.
