Lupe Fiasco will be honored by Words, Beats, and Life as the 2023 Rap Laureate at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, April 8.

The new award from Fiasco is an extension of the organization's Words, Beats, and Life Festival, which runs from April 4 to April 20, 2023. The WBL ceremony will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the Chicago native's commemoration beginning at 11:10 a.m.

Remixing the Art of Social Change is back, according to the event's official press release. "We are excited to partner with D.C. Public Libraries to present some amazing panels and breakout workshops on Saturday (April 8) dedicated to exploring the power and potential of hip-hop culture at this moment with fans, scholars, artists, and activists engaging each other in discussions about what is and what might be.

The event will take place during WBL's Remixing the Art of Social Change conference, which will be released shortly after the publication of their new book, The Rap Laureate. The new project will focus primarily on celebrating Hip-Hop culture while bridging the gap between rap and higher learning.

Dr. Jason Nichols and Mikal Amin Lee will contribute to the debut issue of the Rap Laureate. They'll review the renowned entertainer's career and explain why he's been one of the most influential rappers in the past twenty years.
