The Council Of Europe Has Directed For Limiting The Use Of Apps To Track People With Covid-19

The Council of Europe called for precautionary measures to prevent the risk of loss of personal data and privacy when using applications to track the movements of infected COVID-19 and their contacts, the organization said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

"If such applications are used, it should be on a voluntary basis and strictly limited in time," Alessandra Pierucci, chair of the "Convention 108" Committee, and Jean-Philippe Walter, data protection Commissioner, said in a joint statement.

The statement is intended to contribute to the discussion that is currently taking place in many countries to once again point out that in the case of such digital solutions, it is necessary to rely on strict legal and technical guarantees to reduce risks and threats to the personal data and privacy of citizens.
