Following her viral interview on The Little Mermaid, Halle Bailey has found herself in hot water with netizens. She has been chastised for changing the titular mermaid's character and making it "more nuanced."
Here's all you need to know about everything.
Halle Bailey spoke with Edition on her new Disney film The Little Mermaid.
Bailey explained that she had to modify Ariel's character and her origin story during the interview. She said that they have made her more self-centered rather than being driven as a boy.
'I'm really excited for my version of the film,' she said, 'because we've definitely altered her perception of just her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy.'
'It's far more than that. It's about her, her purpose, her freedom, her existence, and what she wants,' she said.
'As women, we are incredible, we are independent, we are sophisticated, we are everything and above...And I'm pleased that Disney is updating some of those themes.'
The Little Mermaid has already faced many criticism over its title track in the recent past. Many internet users claim that the name is quite similar to Frozen's title track.
Aside from that, the film received outrage for its first teaser, which many fans claim was inconsistent with the original plotline.
Despite the fact, the film is expected to be released in cinemas on the 26th of May 2023.
Following Halle Bailey's recent comments on the upcoming live-action film The Little Mermaid, a debate has erupted on social media platforms.
Ariel was interested in learning about the human world, according to fans. She first saw the world before meeting any boy.
'Did they not see the 1989 Little Mermaid? Did they not hear her song about why she wants to go to where the humans are?' a user wrote.
Another commentator said, 'and you wonder why people don't want this. change the movie that people love, and say this is better because that will make people happy.'
'Mainly nuanced? She gave a summary of the original film character.'
'That was Ariel's whole plot... why is it now so nuanced?' said another user.
