IO Interactive is still working on an upcoming game inspired by 007 himself, although the Hitman franchise is currently on hiatus. Here's what we know thus far.
After an interview between Eurogamer and Christian Elverdam, the studio's chief creative officer and co-owner, IO Interactive's Bond game hasn't received too many updates.
From Hitman to 007, here's what you should know.
Hitman is currently on hiatus for the indefinite future, according to the publication.
The questions discussed their previous franchise as well as their anticipated sequel inspired by James Bond. The interviews discussed how they would approach this issue as well as the whole pitching process.
"It's amazing and literally just invigorating to work with the Eon [Productions] team, the people who are behind everything Bond," Elverdam said.
"Obviously for them, that is their role in the Bond franchise. So for us, it's been about establishing a mutual understanding of 'what is James Bond' is... and as we've talked about, we're doing an origin [story], because one thing, to demonstrate their trust in us, is that we can build a James Bond for the games [audience."
"It's a profound tribute to where our industry is and how our medium is," says the author, in the sense that yes, it's time to have a James Bond character who wasn't a movie character, but who's comfortably his own game character."
Years have gone by.
IO Interactive has been planning a 007 game for a long time. Back in 2013, when the studio was redesigning Hitman, the Bond concept was first voiced. Today, we only have a simple "what if?" scenario, which we shouldn't have to wait too long.
Abrak wants his 007 to stand up against the numerous spy adaptations. He wants to avoid "capitalizing on IP."
