Meta announces that 10,000 people will be lost in the Year of Efficiency ...

Employees asked Meta to be more transparent about its restructuring plans in the last fall. They got what they wanted. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on the company's blog that he hopes transparency will help employees navigate the coming months and implement these changes in the future.

Zuckerberg has announced a restructuring strategy aimed at reducing employment rates. We made the difficult decision to reduce the number of people on our hiring team. At the end of April, we will announce the restructuring and downsizing of our technology group, and at the end of May, we will announce our business units.

Many administrators have asked to be individual contributors as part of this process, which flattens the organization, accelerating the flow of information between those doing the work and management.

Zuckerberg recommended that all industries be as lean as possible, while ensuring that all employees and other roles remain stable.

The number of layoffs in the tech industry is still growing, with Amazon adding another 9,000 employees across a number of businesses that weren't fully finalised until the first layoffs were announced at the start of the year.
