The PC and console market is in a state of flux, yet there is some improvement ...

Newzoo, a consulting business, has released its annual report on the PC and console market, which shows a 2.2 percent decline compared to the previous year. This is certainly a negative figure, but it nevertheless concludes that the situation is stabilizing and is expected to resume in the coming years as a result of the pandemic. For the most part, numbers are returning to pre-pandemic levels, as many people expect.

According to Newzoo, the PC market will shrink due to fewer console releases and a decreased dependence on new titles.

Other statistics show that average game time has decreased by 20% between 2021 and 2022, while both markets have become more egalitarian, with women and non-binary players now account for 40% of the total.

Newzoo expects the console market to be confirmed by resolving the PS5 and Xbox Series X inventory issue and launching additional exclusives. In addition, the report also discusses the broader adoption of the online service model for monetization, with publishers focusing on creating content for existing users. Additionally, a hybrid monetization formula consisting of in-game advertising and subscription services will be more widely adopted.
