Sales are down, but signs of stability are visible in the PC and console market ...

Newzoo, a video game market research organization, has reported a 2.2% decline year over year in the console and PC market. This is certainly a negative figure, but it states that the situation is stabilizing and is about to return to normal following the unfortunate growth of 2020 and 2021 caused by the pandemic.

According to Newzoo, i PC gamers were at 1.1 billion in 2022, while those consoles were at 611 million. The 2.2% decrease in the console market was mainly due to the 4.8 percent decrease in the PC market, which grew by 1.8%.

Other statistics include a 20 percent decrease in average playing time between 2021 and 2022, while both markets have become more egalitarian, with female and non-binary gamers now account for 40% of the total.

Newzoo predicts a confirmation of the console market's results in the near future thanks to the resolution of the PS5 and Xbox Series X stock issue as well as the release of a larger number of exclusives. Furthermore, publishers will be focusing on creating content for existing users. Additionally, a hybrid monetization strategy will be promoted more, consisting of in-game advertising and subscription services.
