The Super Mario Bros. Movie, produced by Illumination, is expected to gross $85-$90 million on its first weekend at minimum, with less conservative projections indicating it could earn nine figures.

Due to the epidemic, box office numbers are still a bit off, but the overwhelming response to trailers and positive reaction from children suggests that the film is on track to set a new high. Batman v Superman is a formidable contender for the remake of 1993's live-action Super Mario Bros., which grossed $39 million worldwide (even inflation adjusted), but that's still short of the Illumination film's opening weekend.

On April 5, the Super Mario Bros. film will be released.
