Microsoft will help you with one of Windows 11's most popular features — the company will make it much easier to change default applications in Windows 11. Compared to Windows 10, in the Redmond company's latest OS, it has become much more difficult to abandon the standard applications for opening certain files and assign them instead desired software.
To modify Windows 11, you need to first launch the operating system's "Settings" section yourself and configure the default application for each file or link in the "Applications" section. That is, the user had to configure each file type rather than simply choosing their preferred web browser or image editor.
Microsoft made it possible to change Windows 11's default browser with a single click last year. Now, app developers will be able to direct users directly to the correct location in Settings to change the default program for certain types of files or links. It will be much more convenient and quicker.
Microsoft announced that testing a new API would enable applications to pin a primary or secondary icon to the taskbar, as well as make changing the OS's settings and appearance more familiar to users on iOS or Android mobile devices.
