Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 single-chip platform, which will replace the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor. In addition, it will support 200-megapixel cameras, VRS technology for games, and Qualcomm's aptX lossless compression codec.
Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 will include many of the Snapdragon 8 series chips. The first mid-range processor to receive a Cortex-X2 core is 2.91 GHz, followed by four Cortex-A510 cores with a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz. CPU performance has increased by more than 50%, and GPU performance has increased by 13%.
Snapdragon Elite Gaming provides support for Variable Shading Rates (VRS) to enhance the rendering of objects like smoke and fog in games. Snapdragon Sound supports the Qualcomm aptX lossless audio compression codec.
Qualcomm claims that the camera can capture more information in a wider dynamic range.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is equipped with a Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF modem, which allows for simultaneous activation of two SIM cards on 4G and 5G networks. Download speeds up to 3.6 Gbps is provided by the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 modem.
The new mobile platform included support for intelligent image resolution scaling in games and photos by using the AI Super Resolution feature.
Many smartphone manufacturers will benefit from the presented platform, but the first models will be released by Xiaomi (Redmi) and realme. Qualcomm says the chipset will debut in smartphones by the end of this month.
