Qualcomm has unveiled a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 mid-range processor, which includes a powerful Cortex-X2 ...

Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 single-chip platform, which will replace the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor. In addition, it will support 200-megapixel cameras, VRS technology for games, and the Qualcomm aptX lossless compression algorithm.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 will have some of the Snapdragon 8 series' capabilities, according to Qualcomm. Another novelty included three Cortex-A710 cores with a frequency up to 2.49 GHz, and four Cortex-A510 cores with a frequency up to 1.8 GHz. CPU performance has increased by more than 50% over its predecessor, and GPU efficiency has increased by 13%.

Snapdragon Elite Gaming is also included in the new platform, which allows for Variable Shading Rate (VRS) optimization in games. Snapdragon Sound supports the Qualcomm aptX lossless audio compression codec.

Qualcomm claims the camera can capture more information over 4,000 times greater dynamic range.

The Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 modem supports dual SIM cards simultaneously for 4G and 5G networks. It supports up to 3.6Gbps Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.

The new mobile platform enabled smart image resolution scaling in games and photographs by using the AI Super Resolution feature.

Many smartphone manufacturers will benefit from the presented platform, but Xiaomi (Redmi) and realme will produce the first handsets. Qualcomm says the chipset will debut in smartphones by the end of this month.
