Nikolai Lantsov is the Prince of Ravka. He is also known as the Major of the 22nd Regiment, the King's Army's Grand Duke, King Pyotr the Third's second son, and the ruler of the Double Eagle Throne. He used his Sturmhond alias to track down Alina undercover, but he is a smart guy who wants to murder Kirigan, the Darkling, with Alina's assistance.
Nikolai suggests a visit to Alina to strengthen alliances and provide security to Alina. Kirigan and his shadow monsters attack Nikolai and his army, triggering a conflict. Nikolai fights valiantly alongside the Crows and defeats Kirigan's army. Nikolai is crowned king, and Alina becomes the new queen.
