Extrapolations' second episode is poetic but somewhat convoluted. "2046" begins to sag in its self-importance but gets a poignant turn by Sienna Miller. Either way, this is a superbly produced program with a captivating cast that will keep viewers interested.

Recap of Season 1 Episode 2 of Extrapolations

Rebecca is raising her nine-year-old son, Ezra, according to a story his grandmother (played by Meryl Streep) told him about elephants, which were extinct. Yes, it is because of the heat at 97 degrees and the air quality in which he lives. People only live till 30 years of age.

Rebecca had Omar cremated him during Manilla storms. Since he has gone, the ocean temperatures have reached 90 degrees. Marine life, including humpback whales, depend on the lack of food.

She leaps over a never-ending forest fire. The company she works for has the technology to communicate with the whales, and lost contact with one appears to be the only one she can track.

Rebecca and Eve both suffered from the loss of their male son. Eve's needing food is huge since humpback whales need nearly 3,000 pounds of krill per day. Eve reports the last male humpback isn't far away. Yet, one of the employees appears to be attempting to manipulate Eve into beaching herself due to the fact that it's expensive to keep her alive.

Ezra's grandmother told him stories on tape, but she had passed away years earlier from liver cancer. She recorded them on film and thought she would hear them.

Rebecca contemplates a conversation with Omar. They told her she was okay, but she didn't want to disturb her work. She passed away.

Season 1 Episode 2 of Extrapolations: What Happened?

Rebecca goes to the lab and tells Eve to ignore the whale calls. Eve replies, saying, "I tell her to ignore the calls," and that someday, their species will flourish again. Eve then makes a valid point. What will be left of this if they do return?

Rebecca is sent to Alaska because of difficulties communicating with the grey wolf. She notices that Alpha has moved into the bay. She also takes Ezra out by boat and drops a sensor into the water to communicate with Eve, who arrives, to meet Ezra.
