Evelyn Lozada, a former Basketball Wives star, got engaged to Lavon Lewis, whom she met on the Peacock dating program Queens Court back in December, but the news about the engagement didn't surface until March 16th. Lavon revealed in the interview how he proposed on Evelyn's birthday at a small gathering with family and friends.
"I told Evelyn to pack her bags, we're going somewhere," Lavon said. "She was blindfolded until she reached the front door, where she saw the huge'marry me' letters, roses on the ground, and other things."
Evelyn told PEOPLE that she wasn't expected to get engaged on that day. He was being super-sponsored and, in all honesty, I was a bit irritated because I'm such an alpha female and I'm like, why do I have to pack? Why do I have to do this? "It was really, really difficult for me to just let him do his thing."
Evelyn and Lavon continue to live across the country from each other, although Evelyn is in Los Angeles and Lavon is in Atlanta. Evelyn stated that her future husband "has been very diligent in ensuring he gets on a plane to come visit." Lavon added that his 13-year-old son will return to Evelyn when he finishes high school.
Evelyn was married to retired NFL star Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson, 45, in 2019. The couple's reality show, Ev and Ocho, never ended up airing, as Evelyn filed for divorce from Chad on August 14, 2012, three days after he was charged with domestic battery. He was sentenced to a year in prison.
