Wemade, a Korean company, held a media event to showcase the main content of the MMORPG Night Crows. During the event, Lee Sun-ho, who headed the game's development, named five key phrases in Latin that would describe the coming novelty.
Night Crows is the first cross-platform MMORPG (for PC and mobile devices) based on Unreal Engine 5 and utilizing unrivaled graphics, depicting medieval Europe as authentic as if it were the real world.
Night Crows follows the traditional way of free progression. By means of subclasses, you may expand your initial class into a more advanced and powerful form.
Night Crows reduces excessive and unnecessary combat pace and excessive "flashy" skills. With "realistic action" and "combat ability" enhanced by your own efforts, you can feel the real pleasure of battle.
High fly (flying high) is a glider that allows for free movement between ground and air. Three functions may be employed: hover to halt in the middle of the air; swift flight to fly rapidly in a horizontal direction; descent attack to assault enemies on the ground from the air.
Night Crows is a massive 1,000-man battlefield, a physical encounter between characters, a 3D battlefield with gliders, and elevation differences on the map. Players can move away from the flat, siege-focused local warfare to enjoy more colorful battles. Exchanges and individual transactions are tied 1:1.
The Last Crusade of the Night Ravens is a great battle of conquest. To strengthen the position, build guilds, seize power, and then unite kingship and priesthood, these are the last values.
Questions and answers
A Q&A session with Night Crows' creators followed this event. You may download a free translation into Russian.
Q. This is the first WeMade press conference in ten years. It sounds like you have great expectations for Night Crows. I wonder how you intend to justify them and if there is any pressure on you?
Kim Jeong Hoon. We held the meeting because we have great expectations for the game. We will do our best to produce a good game.
Night Crows is a massive battlefield for 1000 people, and it has a well-developed economy. As I said before, I feel that wonderful graphics that portray the familiar European worldview in the most beautiful and realistic way are our strength.
Q. What degree of success do you expect for the game?
Kim Jeong Hoon, we do not strive for a certain level within the company. We have always provided services worthy of the first place. When we combine Mad Engine technologies with our services technologies, the first place will not be impossible.
Q. I read on the development site that Unreal Engine 5 is still working on. What are the benefits of using this engine?
Song Myung Suk. Unreal Engine 5 had some flaws in its early stages. I was concerned if I could immediately apply it to game development, but thanks to the official release, it has been useful.
Q. Tell us about boosting your character's combat strength.
Lee Chang Hyun. We will not charge for leveling pets or characters. This is a critical gameplay feature that has a wide variety of uses on the battlefield, which is created by collecting in-game materials and spending time.
Q. You mentioned that you'd like to release the blockchain version in the second half of this year, but will it remain the same? What impact will this have on the character's combat ability?
Night Crows is being released for the Korean market, so it's too early to talk about a worldwide version. However, the rights to a global publishing house have already been signed, so the game will be served internationally via the Wemix platform once it's successful.
Is this a open world game? How many people are working on it, and how much does it cost to develop it?
Song Myung Suk. The reality is that the concepts of open world and wholeness are dispersed, but more specifically, the world is divided into zones, so to speak: "Is it so?" Each zone is wide enough to answer the question: "Is it so?"
Q: Have game companies made communication with users a top priority in recent years? Will you be able to communicate with Night Crows players?
Kim Jeong Hoon. This is the beginning of communication. The preparation was lengthy, but I did it because I thought it was the finest place to showcase the enormity of the game. We will continue to communicate through various channels in the future.
Q. You stated that you intend to develop a Chinese service, but I'm curious what your methods will work with Chinese consumers.
Kim Jeong Hoon. This is just a roadmap for the future, but it's too early to elaborate a clear plan. It's appropriate to speak when the Korean version is successfully launched and new features are released.
Q. As a motivation for fighting, you invoked economic gain. Please elaborate on the benefits in more depth.Lee Sun Ho. Large hunting grounds, such as battlefields, are of great interest to players, and we intend to foster competition through this. In addition, Conquest Wars are anticipated between guilds seeking additional resources from the regions.
Q. What are the minimum requirements for PC and mobile devices? Also, do there exist plans for a Steam release?
Song Myung Suk. Mad Engine is a tiny company, yet we believe that it will have no problem optimizing the game as it is a cutting-edge technology company. On Android, the PC must have an RTX 2070 graphics card for the highest settings. There are no plans to release on Steam.
Q. Is a dogfight a possibility? I wonder if it is possible to strike a user who intends to cancel or something similar?
Lee Sun Ho. Air combat isn't feasible. The glider is the element that creates a variable in combat, and it has additional strategic functions, such as the ability to outflank the opponent.
Q. Is there any intention to develop an artificial intelligence capability such as ChatGPT?
Song Myung Suk. There are no plans to implement such things. However, the development environment will change in the future, and we are currently conducting research and development in this direction, such as creating art using low-level AI.
Q. What are the customization options?Lee Sun Ho. We do not intend to make customization very extensive. However, we will provide a preset look for each class that would best match medieval Europe.
Q. How many items of equipment does the character possess?
Lee Sung-ho. This is the part we need to keep balancing and tweaking until the launch. So please understand that it's difficult to talk about right now.
Q. What are your plans to achieve in terms of 3D movement?
Lee Sun Ho. All classes aren't balanced in a way that they can all fight with the same efficiency in all locations. Because each role group is different, hunting performance is also different. However, we're constantly testing and balancing to a level where the difference between a class with excellent hunting efficiency and a class with poor hunting efficiency will be minor.
Is there any intention to make Mad Engine a subsidiary of [Wemade] if the game is successful?
Kim Jeong Hoon. There are no plans at present.
