Savannah Guthrie, 51, left TODAY early on Tuesday, February 28 after testing positive for COVID-19 during the live morning broadcast. Sheinelle Jones, Savannah's co-anchor, revealed what happened with Savannah 30 minutes later.

Savannah left early because she wasn't feeling well, so she took a COVID test, which came back positive.” Sheinelle continued, wishing her best for Savannah's recovery.

Savannah is expected to miss the rest of the week on TODAY as she recovers. She tested positive for the virus both in May 2022 and in January 2022. She also is likely to miss the program as Hoda Kotb, 58, continues to be off the air, for reasons we’re still unknown.

Hoda had a "planned absence" last Monday for President's Day, according to Decider, but she was also M.I.A. on February 24. On Friday's episode of TODAY, Savannah revealed that, "Hoda's off today," and later added, "Hoda's got the morning off." For Today With Hoda and Jenna, she has been temporarily replaced by Sheinelle.

Hoda has been active on social media in the last week, with a slew of cryptic messages. On February 27, she shared a picture on Instagram with the title "Choose Hope" amid a sunset sky. Earlier, she shared a few messages on Instagram about "strong women" and "brave individuals."
