The Wall Street Journal's owners had been shared by hackers for two years ...

They are assumed to be members of China's cybertroops.

For over two years, a group of hackers had access to News Corp's internal network. These companies own The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, and other publications.

The News Corp network was hacked for the first time in February 2022. The breach was discovered no later than January 2020; the hackers were identified by activity on a cloud service used by News Corp employees.

Hackers gained access to News Corp employees' internal papers and correspondence for two years. Although the hackers became aware of the employees' personal information, the investigation concluded that they were not misused in any way.

News Corp was apparently targeted by "civilian" hackers, not by employees of Chinese intelligence agencies or persons with connections to these organizations, according to the investigation.
