The foldable smartphone segment is likely to be the most captivating niche for any mobile technology enthusiast in recent years. Several competitors, including Xiaomi, have also made their wagers in this sector.
Xiaomi MIX Fold 2, a claimed competitor of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, who shares a "book" style folding interface and a vertical folding axis, was on display during the MWC 2023 that dazzled us with its elegant appearance and thin "waist."
Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is one of the most anticipated devices at MWC 2023.
This Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 was officially unveiled on August 11, 2022, as the brand's first smartphone with a folding format and optics developed in partnership with Leica. Therefore, it is only natural that our curiosity took over when we finally saw this product in our hands.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is currently unavailable in Europe. Besides, there are no forecasts that this will change, and this high-end smartphone should remain exclusive to the domestic market, China.
A foldable phone that is thinner than its main competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4.
It should be noted that a folding mobile phone has a thickness of only 11.2 mm when closed. It is made of metal and glass, with a new hinge mechanism that is more robust and durable.
In fact, when the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is opened, its thickness is 5.4 mm (no counting the protrusion of the cameras on the rear). Regardless, they are fantastic value considering all the technology (and engineering) that goes into it.
In Europe, there is unfortunately no availability forecast.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8+ (Plus) Gen 1 processor, one of the best SoC's available for Android smartphones. It has also got a 4,500 mAh battery.
Samsung's 6.56-inch diagonal exterior screen is designed for folding phones. More specifically, it features a 21:9 aspect ratio and a fast refresh rate at 120 Hz, as well as a maximum brightness of up to 1000 nits (peak).
Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus protects the outer screen, which is particularly vivid and pleasant to use.
Competition is lacking in the folding smartphone segment.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 will not be available in Europe. The same applies to the countryman manufacturer's OPPO Find N2 Fold. They are two folding phones with a "book" format and top features that might encourage Samsung to accelerate its development.
These models aren't expected to make it to Europe, unfortunately.
The Xiaomi smartphone has a triple main camera approved by Leica. The primary sensor is the Sony IMX766 with 50 MP resolution and wide-angle optics.
A 13 MP ultra-wide angle is also available, as well as a third camera with a 2x optical zoom (magnification) and an 8MP resolution.
The 20MP front camera for selfies, with wide-angle optics, is also highlighted.
