Some San Diego residents on Twitter visited the city on Monday to express their experiences of hearing loud booms.
A user @christasleeve reported the first instance of it at around 4 pm local time. Another user @mexipino78 of Twitter reported that another loud boom was heard around 4:30 pm local time.
After San Diego residents responded to the loud booms, they said that it felt like "the whole house was shaken". Netizens are left wondering what were the loud booms heard in certain areas of the city.
Some users claimed that the loud booms were caused by the earthquake. One user even thought the boom was a sonic boom. However, others on Reddit refuted the claims that the loud booms were caused by an earthquake.
Users may have been unaware that the loud booms heard by San Diego residents were caused by earthquakes or a sonic boom. According to Patch, Cpl. Shaina Jupiter Of Camp Pendleton, the base was conducting regular live fire training.
The employees did not confirm whether the booms were from the base or not. However, the camp did clarify that "explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away." This will take place between the 25th February and 5th March 2023.
"Although i can't confirm the exact noise, booms or shakes you're referring to, here at Camp Pendleton we're conducting routine live-fire training with high explosive munitions that may be heard throughout the day," said a spokesperson for Camp Pendleton.
