The game director of Dark Souls, Hidetaka Miyazakithe, and Elder Ring expressed their interest and openness in the possibility of a multiplayer game, explicitly mentioning Escape from Tarkov.
In an interview with IGN following the DICE Awards, Miyazaki mentioned which technologies, trends, or ideas excite him the most. The answer was "multiplayer," with Escape from Tarkov as a particularly interesting example.
"I'm not really sure if this is the current trend, but the multiplayer components that we keep updating both in terms of technology and design." "Especially when it comes to Tarkov, I'm paying close attention to it, both as an author and as a fan."
"Other people in the industry are continuing to improve multiplayer functionality and game design in order to transform the way players engage in gameplay and what players are used for as a part of the game's assets."
Is there any chance that FromSoftware might develop a multiplayer game in the near future? Hidetaka Miyazaki's comments appear to indicate this is a possibility for the study.
Escape from Tarkov is a multiplayer tactical shooter that was released in 2017 but was still in early access, establishing the "extraction shooter" genre, which now includes Hunt: Showdown and the DMZ mode in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.
