Nicolas Cage said he always knew that he would play Dracula someday ...

Nicolas Cage, who plays Dracula in the film Renfield, has always felt a fan of Nosferatu. So when he spoke with reporters about the role of the ancient vampire, he said he felt it was only a matter of time before he played him.

Cage immediately signed on, immediately responding to the idea of an American Werewolf in a London-style horror film when McKay re-contacted him again. His voice, mannerisms, and movements were perfectly matched.

Cage began weaving his own ideas into McKay's script, which he describes as a narcissistic narcissist with power difficulties. The role of "Renfield's" Dracula pushed Cage to dive deeper.

"It's really about the character's psyche," says the author, "and I thought about how this craving can take a person into darker dimensions."

The film "Renfield" will be released on April 14th.
