The recently released "Wild Hearts" was reviewed by Digital Foundry on several platforms.
The PS5 version of "Wild Hearts" received good reviews. 44 reviews led to one Meta score of 8.3 for the players who contributed a user score.
Nonetheless, testers and players must bear in mind that "Wild Hearts" must overcome technical difficulties and that its performance is not always up to date. As an analysis by Digital Foundry demonstrates, the slimmed-down Xbox Series S is particularly hit.
Even with an RTX 4090 system with a Core i9 12900K and fast DDR5, there were frequent stutters in the tests.
Pixel crawl artifacts in the PS5 version
Wild Hearts is a resolution game that is v-synced 30 frames per second, with little sign of frame-pacing issues. In this mode, the game suffers from pixel crawl artifacts, which isn't an issue in the 60fps performance mode.
The 30 FPS mode on Xbox Series X also had issues. There was no need to have the pixel crawl issue here. Rather, uneven frame pacing was discovered, with frame times oscillating between 16, 33 and 50 ms.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X both have a 60 FPS Performance mode, with the PS5 having an advantage in the Minato hub area. Framerate declines in several sections on Xbox Series X, particularly near shrines.
The Xbox Series S is fairly stripped down, with framerates fluctuating a lot, which Digital Foundry claims never feels particularly smooth. Besides a "severe list of visual degradations," "Wild Hearts" is even less recommendable on this platform.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X will run at 30 frames per second in Resolution mode and 1080p at up to 60 frames per second in Performance mode. The Xbox Series S will run at 900 frames per second.
