According to Kotaku, Ubisoft Montpellier has lost the studio director and managing director Guillaume Carmona after a six-year hiatus. The studio is being investigated by the local government in France.
Particularly when it comes to Beyond Good & Evil 2, which was revisited in 2017, we've learned a shockingly little about it. Guillaume Carmona, who has been with Ubisoft for almost 20 years, has apparently not been there since the beginning of 2023.
Kotaku sent a message to Ubisoft for a comment, which it replied: “We are continuing to strive to improve our teams’ health and wellbeing.” Carmona will not be returning to Ubisoft for the time being.
Although the Beyond Good & Evil 2 studio has lost its creative director, Emile Morel is believed to have taken the position of associate director. Benjamin Dumaz is also believed to have been replaced by Charles Gaudron, who is also the current Ubisoft Montpellier executive producer.
Despite investigations into workplace culture taking place behind closed doors, Ubisoft has attempted to maintain its public presence. Last year, Montpellier saw many of its developers, including some project managers, take extended leave for stress and sickness. Some return to work on Beyond Good & Evil 2, others are leaving permanently.
Beyond Good & Evil 2, a game that has obviously failed to get off the ground since its 2008 release (much less a Netflix film is apparently still in development). Let's see what the future holds.
