Puss in Boots' several lives span not a long time.
Polygon journalists had bad suspicions about Shrek and his pals after the release of the film "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish": the publication claimed that Puss in Boots' comrades had died long ago.
Joel Crawford, the director of "Puss in Boots 2," claimed that Shrek is still alive. According to Crawford, the events of "Puss in Boots 2" and the films where Shrek appears are only ten years apart, by ogres' standards.
Crawford explains that he and fellow filmmaker Hanuel Mercado have studied in great depth the ten years that have passed since the Shrek universe was created. They were not prepared to kill Shrek.
DreamWorks has yet to disclose whether or not an animated Shrek film would be made. Perhaps there are. At the end of Puss in Boots 2, the titular character goes to the Far, Far Kingdom.
This is an interesting story.
