Sheryl Lee Ralph, an Emmy-winning actress from Abbott Elementary, spoke about her original role on the popular show before the 2023 SAG Awards held on Sunday night (February 26).
"Absolutely not," she said of her initial conversation with the show's creator. "We need a queen for Barbara Howard, and you are that queen," Ralph said.
"I'm so grateful that she stood up for Barbara Howard the way she did," she said of the successful program. "She's really given me the gift of a lifetime."
Janelle James won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the 54th Annual NAACP Image Awards on Saturday (February 25).
Abbott Elementary received an Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at this year's SAG Awards, as well as a nod for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, in which Brunson lost to Jean Smart of Hacks.
In 2013, ABC's Modern Family won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble. The 66-year-old actor predicted the program's feat.
"I believe it's absolutely time," she declared. Abbott Elementary is the program to do it.
