The Head Of Israel's Health Ministry Has Resigned Amid Criticism Over The Pandemic
Israel's Health Minister Yaakov Litzman said on Saturday that he was resigning, according to the Israeli state radio Kan.
According to him, Litzman informed the Prime Minister of the Jewish state, Benjamin Netanyahu, about his decision, asking to transfer him to the post of head of the Ministry of construction and housing.
Previously, the Minister was criticized by political opponents for actions taken in the fight against the spread of a new type of coronavirus. Litzman himself contracted the coronavirus and suffered the disease without complications while at home. At the same time, channel 12 of the Israeli TV claims, with reference to sources in the political environment of Litzman, that the decision to leave the Ministry was not related to such criticism.
According to the Israeli Ministry of health, currently, 15,298 cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in the country, 199 people have died, and 6,435 have recovered.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 2.8 million people have been infected with the coronavirus in the world, and more than 200 thousand have died.
