The largest trade union of communications and media workers in the United States (CWA) has called on the European Commission to authorize the collaboration between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard.
Margrethe Vestager Hansen, the European Commission's vice president, addressed the union in a letter. In it, the group urged her to recognize the importance of collective bargaining and consider the possible positive impact of the agreement on the gaming industry.
According to CWA, the merger between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard will give employees greater opportunities to communicate with employers, reducing the influence of the latter. The union also took the opportunity to remind Vestager Hansen of his own repeated complaints against Activision Blizzard.
Microsoft has already signed a labor neutrality agreement with the CWA, which guarantees the company's neutrality with labor unions.
Microsoft and Activision Blizzard are expected to complete their transaction by the end of June this year. Tencent, according to media reports, the European Commission might rule on the transaction by April 11.
