The appearance of a guest on the new Night Court reboot may cause some actors to have backstage anxieties, as the NBC sitcom has been ruled a win-win situation! However, when the guests are figure skating legends Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir, the nerves are readily subdued!
Tara said laughing, adding, "If you're not nervous, you don't care." "We always say, "We're always nervous, whether it's as athletes or as live broadcasters."
Johnny replied, "I agree." "Any opportunity we have to spend time with our bestie is, if not, a lifetime achievement. We would love to continue doing it, acting." We replied, "Are you busy this weekend?"
Tara and Johnny slay while playing themselves in the episode in which Judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch) is in a race against time to meet them, her two favorite celebrities, in her own courtroom. Along the way, the figure skaters-turned-sports commentators have a side-splitting scene with John Larroquette's attorney Dan Fielding!
Tara and Johnny's amazing friendship, which they established shortly after they began to comment on NBC's figure skating program, was echoed throughout the night court interview. Despite their professional relationship, the pair said in HollywoodLife that their personal one never interferes with their professional one.
"It's really bizarre and I think that's why it's so important," Tara added. "In my sport, we were individual athletes so focused on ourselves and it's so competitive that I wouldn't trade anything for anything. It's just, at least for me, it just felt meant to be."
Johnny said, "We don't fight." He then added, "First of all, the world that we come from, it's so rare to really find a friend." "With that kind of background, it's possible to be very hard to normalize yourself."
Johnny continued, "I want her to succeed more than I want myself to succeed." "I know she feels the same," Johnny continued, "and we've always asked us, "is this just for the camera?"
Both Tara and Johnny were enormously excited to be a part of the reboot, despite their age when the original Night Court ended its run in 1992!
Johnny said his parents were both exuberant when it came to rebooting the program. I haven't had a moment's breath to sit down and take in what's happened, but I know it's getting great ratings and people are sharing it. That makes me so proud. And obviously NBC is our home for Olympic coverage and we're always so excited when something so special happens with the Peacock family.”
Tara & Johnny's hilarious Night Court episode "Train Court" will be available on NBC Tuesday, February 21st at 8pm ET/PT.
