UFC 249 Tournament Will Take Place On May 9 In Florida
The UFC management announced that the UFC 249 tournament, where Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaitzhi should face, will take place in Jacksonville on May 9.
Initially, this tournament was scheduled in New York, on April 18, where Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson should compete for the lightweight title. However, the coronavirus pandemic confused all the cards for the organizers. The event had to be postponed, and the champion refused to participate due to uncertainty.
Ten fights are scheduled for May 9 in Jacksonville. In addition to the Ferguson - Geitzhi fight, the current belt holder Henry Cejudo and Dominic Cruz will compete for the title in the lightest category. Within the show, Russian Alexey Oleynik will also hold a duel, who will fight with Brazilian Fabricio Werdum, who has served a suspension for doping.
The official AFP report says that the Florida State Commission is ready to authorize the tournaments, which would take place on May 9, 13, and 16, respectively. The organizers announced that health and safety protocols will be in effect and the tournament will be held without spectators.
