Steven Knight, FX's writer/executive producer, has finally set a premiere date for his limited series Great Expectations (See, Peaky Blinders, Taboo). The six-part adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel will launch on Sunday, March 26, 2023 on Hulu, with the release of the first two episodes.
The cast of FX chose to announce the premiere date on Charles Dickens' birthday in February 2022. (Dickens was born on February 7, 1812 in Landport, Portsmouth, United Kingdom.)
The public announcement of the premiere date was accompanied by a series poster, as well as a description of what the artwork represents:
Miss Havisham, one of literature's most famous characters, is ensnaring her pawns, Pip and Estella, in a headdress she still wears from her wedding that never was. Other memorable scenes from the tale include the decaying Satis House, the old prison ship and manacles that led Magwitch to Pip, thereby beginning Dickens' beloved Great Expectations.
Fionn Whitehead plays Pip and Olivia Colman plays Miss Havisham in the six-episode series. Shalom Brune-Franklin, Ashley Thomas, Johnny Harris, Hayley Squires, Trystan Gravelle, Rudi Dharmalingam, Tom Sweet, Chloe Lea, and Matt Berry are all producers, while Brady Hood and Samira Radsi are directed.
FX Productions is collaborating with the BBC, Scott Free, and Hardy Son & Baker to create a limited series.
The Plot:
Pip, an orphan who longs for a better life until he discovers a hidden world of possibilities due to a twist of fate and the evil methods of Miss Havisham, will have to figure out whether or not this new reality will truly transform him into the man he wants to be.
Dickens' novel, which is a brutal critique of the class system, was published in 1861, after initially releasing it in a series of weekly chapters beginning in December 1860.
