Is Vadh a True Story?

No, 'Vadh' is not based on a true story. However, the crime thriller undoubtedly highlights some of our society's harsh realities through a captivating narrative penned by Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Rajeev Barnwal.

India has a traditional family culture in which children take care of their parents by living together or providing for them when they become senior citizens. In some instances, there arises a disconnect between the two generations, wherein the aged parents find themselves at the unpleasant receiving end of the contemporary age, and it sometimes leads to the children abandoning their parents.

In 2017, 3000 senior citizens were apparently abandoned within the city of Guntur itself. According to a HelpAge India report of 2022, 36.1 percent of elders were subjected to verbal abuse, while 30 percent were victims of violence, according to the survey's findings.

Shambhunath was inhumanely abused by a loan shark, according to accounts, because they were unable to repay their loans. They were not debted to banks, rather to goons and blade mafias who would harass the loanees and suffer mental agony.

The mistreatment lasted long before the epidemic and is common in remote areas where loan sharks trap innocent farmers. Such instances are rare, but they still exist. For example, in November 2022, Wasimuddin Shaikh was supposedly murdered by four people who repeatedly stabbed him. When the borrower reportedly allied with people and brutally murdered him, he was reportedly killed.

This connection is not intended to justify murder, but rather to illuminate similar real-life events that inspire fiction. But in Hindu mythology, the word "vadh" is the dominant one.

Because of the stories of Ramayana, Narasimha, and Lord Krishna, 'Vadh' is a fictional story about a common man who goes through everyday hardships that are grounded in reality. The filmmakers have used a subtle layer of mythological inspiration.
